Bristol-Myers Squibb has announced a recall of its blood pressure medication Avalide. The recall covers 60 million tablets that were manufactured before 2009 in Puerto Rico and distributed in the United States and Puerto Rico.
The recall is a precaution after it was discovered that there might be variations in one form of the active ingredient in the tablets. The variance would cause the tablets to dissolve at a slower rate than usual. The company released a statement that they do not have any evidence that the medication has reduced potency, but have initiated the recall because they are unable to rule out that possibility. Predictability of medications is a necessity for physicians and patient evaluations, and it is possible that any variations in the drug might impact the course of treatment.
Since other lots of the drug were not impacted, the company does not anticipate any shortage of the drug to stem from the recall.

What is the REAL reason fof the recall of Avalide?????
I’ve been taking Avalide 300-25 for six years now. Just got my perscription filled Dec 2010 and my pharmist didn’t know or tell me anything about the recall. I my called my pharmacy today to ask if my Avalide perscripton was ready and was told that it was recalled. I only have two pills left. It would have been nice it they had called to let me know of the recall, now I have to be late for work and stop by the doctors office before work in the am to ask if there is a replacement pill. In the past few months I would wake up thinking that I was falling out of the bed, just
thought that it was my nerves and on my last doctor’s visit Jan 2011, my doctor
told me that my blood pressure was up and it has not been elevated until now.
I’ve been taking Avalide 300-25 for 13 years. I have never had a
problem getting a prescription filled until two weeks ago. I knew
nothing about the recall in 2009. I don’t think Walmart Pharmacy
did either. They gave me the run around for a week and a half
before I found out from another Pharmacy about the recall. My
Physician changed my prescription to 300mg Avapro & 25mg HCT.
I question why if there was a recall, that Walmart continued selling
the pills. I guess they sold them until their supply ran out. I believe the facility in Puerto Rico that manufactured them was the one recently featured on TV, that was closed by the FDA as unsafe.
Makes you wonder how safe any medication really is.
Can anyone tell me what to do with the remainder of my 90 day supply? I am out $60 for these pills, I feel that Bristol Myers owes everyone that has remaining medication a refund. I am contacting the NY State Attorney General, besides paying outrageous prices for this medication, THEY CAN KEEP OUR MONEY?, this is stealing, wouldn’t you return an appliance that didn’t work. Why should pharmaceutical companies be any different
I had the exact same problem as Debbie. I called Rite Aid to have the prescription refilled and was told it was recalled. In October I was at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ in October – 1 month after the recall and was told to bring my own supply from home because they said their supply had been depleted. They should have known and told me about the recall. Having the pharmacy make the mistake is one thing, but for a hospital not to know and let you bring in your own medication is ludicrous. I don’t take my pressure often enough, but while in the hospital, it was all over the place – mostly low which is very unusual for me. Some compensation should be made.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERE HEADACHES IN MY SLEEP, NERVOUSNESS, FREQUENT URINATION AND VERTIGO THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING OVER THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS OR SO I HAVE NEVER IN FIFTY YEARS HAD VERTIGO. WHEN I WAKE UP WITH THE HEADACHES MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS ELEVATED. I HAVE BEEN TAKING AVALIDE 150/12.5 AND 300/25 FOR YEARS. MY HUSBAND WENT TO GET MY REFILL AND STUMBLED UP ON THE RECALL. THE DOCTOR DIDN’T KNOW, THE PHARMACY DIDN’T KNOW EITHER. WHY THE SECRECY FROM BRISTOL MEYERS THEY SHOULD MAKE THIS PUBLIC, IT MUST BE WORSE THAN WE KNOW.
I’ve taking Avalide 150/12.5 for over four years. I thought that my blood pressure was being managed, but I never understood why I would be dizzy in the mornings after waking. I tried to refill my prescribetion yesterday and was told by the pharmacy that Avalide was on recall. I then explained to the pharmacist that my Doctor was out of town and I hadn’t taking a pill in three days. I asked if she could give me a substitute pill. She gave me five Avalide pills to hold me until my doctor returned. Today I visited my doctors office for a new blood pressure prescription he prescribed Losartan 100 mg and Hctz 12.5 mg and told me that it is a generic form of Avalide. I asked his assistance if they had samples of this drug she told me no, but then gave me samples of the Avalide. Four boxes of seven pills. It seems as those no one is taking this recall serious, or is it that my health care providers don’t care about my health. This really scares me.
I’ve been taking Avalide for a number of years. I refilled in Jan 2011 with no problem. Now I got a letter from Shopko that there is a shortage of the drug. I dropped off prescriptions renewals today and local Shopko said they will call my doctor on Monday and get Avapro and ACT prescriptions (Avalide is a combination of those 2). Interesting that the article said they did not anticipate any shortage due to the recall since it only affected those manufactured at BMS plant in Puerto Rico.
i’M 65 AND HAD ONE STROKE. I have been taking Avalide 300-12.5 and 300-25 since 2003. Was just informed the product was pull from inventory. Checked 1/2 doz. different pharmancies and no -one has any. What’s the company going to do, in making this right with the costomer. As state, no shortage, I had a hard time getting my BP adjusted and found something what works. NOW WHAT.
I have been taking Avalide for 5 years to the tune of $113 per month. I went to Wal-Mart where I get my perscriptions filled and was told that they were out of the pills and nobody had them. I wigged out because I had taken my last pill yesterday. She checked with the pharmacist came back and told me she could fill 1/2 of the perscription for $108 today and then when the shipment of pills arrived would fill the other half for $108. I asked “what happened to you were out of pills and nobody had them?” She said they had a few for emergencies. So basically had I filled the script it would have cost me $216 instead of $113 because they were out. I asked her if she thought I was stupid and she should do the math. She said she will fax my physician in the morning to see what substitute he will advise. I can see the writing on the wall, the doctor will have to see me again and because it deals with blood pressure, he will charge me more because that’s how they do it here in Iowa…office visits are based on how many things are wrong with you. My last visit was $250 for a yearly physical that amounted to no more then listening to my heart and taking my blood pressure….the blood test were an additional $227. I have not been able to sleep for 2 months, getting by on 3 hours of sleep a night, I’m nervous all the time, peeing like a racehorse, headaches and feeling flushed. I really thought I had sleep apnea but my husband said I don’t snore. After reading the comments posted, it sounds like others have the same symptoms so I have to assume it’s the Avalide. I about wigged out when I read that it was produced in Puerto Rico as they recalled other drugs from there that were made out of drywall plaster. The fact that we cannot recoup money for unused drugs is absurd. I don’t have any, but if I did, I would certainly be irked.
I’ve been taking avalide for about two years, I have been experiencing cramps and numbness in my left arm. Did not know about the recall until this past Friday when I went into Publix Pharmacy for a the rest of my pills. It was at that time that I was informed of the recall. Going to have my heart check to see if there is any damage. On February 4th I went into Publix it was then I was informed that the company was reformulating this drug. However the previous week I sent my husband in to have prescription refill and that is when I receive only 3 three pills I am wondering is Publix knew then.
I have been taking avalide for 5 years and go to get it filled they have none now taking different blood medicate and have been sick .and was doing o.k on the Avalide .now haveing trouble getting my blood pressure straight how nice .sad no one said anything about it just removed it. .could someone please tell me what the doctor prescribed that was close to Avalide for you.i was taking 300/25/and my husband takes 300/12.
Im a pharmacy Tech. My fiance was also taking Avalide before it was recalled. They are not saying much to anyone about the recall. Not even to the pharmacies who dispensed the medication to the patients. We learned the same way everyone else did. They are trying to cover up something, but when it hits the fan, there will be alot of angry consumers. To Donna, alot of Doctors have been prescribing Avapro and Hydrochlorothiazide to their patients to replace the Avalide.
I have been taking Avalide for about 6 years now and it works wonderfully, just expensive. The doctor, trying to save me money, tried me on several generics from Walmart’s $4 list. My BP went sky high and I had terrible headaches. I called and found out I had some refills on my Avalide prescription so I got a full one in January, but when I tried to refill it this week, I was told they were out. I was given 3 pills while Walmart waited for a shipment. Called back the third day and really got a runaround from their pharmacy. I got fed up and went to Walgreen’s to have the prescription transferred. That’s when I learned there was a shortage (nothing about a recall). I paid for the last 23 pills they had and told them I would try to find out why the shortage. Now I see why. I wonder is this the same factory in Puerto Rico I saw on “60 Minutes” a few weeks ago that was shipping out tainted meds? My doctor had been giving me weeks and weeks of samples to save me money, but his office hasn’t received in months. Guess I will see if he will give me the Avapro instead and the HZT separate.
I’ve only been taking avalide less than a year. It is one of many that have worked for me without grusome side effects and I hate to have to try something else. My Dr gave me all he had (a months supply) so guess he’ll have to try something else for me. All of this only makes a physician’s job that much more difficult. It looks like Bristol-Myers Squibb outsourced the manufacture of this drug without proper monitoring of quality – all for the almighty buck. This is our lives they are messing with just to make more money! Why can’t our medicines be made in this country and give some of the 30 million unemployed people an opportunity to make a decent living?
I just found out Avalide is being recalled, now I know where these awful headaches I’ve been having are coming from. I thought they were migraines, also the flush in my face. The worst part is now I have to pay twice the amount of money for two prescriptions, but what even worse is have to take 60 more pills a month instead of 30. This is all so wrong to the patients like me who has to wonder why the recall? I definitely think we should be compensated for the extra money & for having to take 60 pills a month.
The avalide is being recalled due to the chance the ibersartan doesn’t fully deliver the dose it is supposed to when it gets to the stomach. I have used it without problems for years as well, but I take more hctz as a separate pill. Check the website for more information.
I have been taking avalide for about 8 years, I was only told about the recall last week. My dr gives me the samples. I made several vists to the office trying to get the samples, was told they were out., Never told me of the recall until I was feeling sick. NOw says I need to try a new med. I would love to know what their hiding. I ve been having problems falling asleep for unexplained reasons and waking up duing the night and fell nervous like i cant breath. I wonder if anyone else is having this problem.
I’am a healthcare worker and pride myself on preventive care never miss my yearly labworks are annual wells women visits, and visit my physician at the first signs of any problems,I to feel like a victim of the system, recently I begin experiencing left arm discomfort and at first ignored it an thought that maybe I slept on my arm and went on about my daily activities but the discomfort really was persistant and I begin experiencing a tingling sensation to my left jaw, so i went in and seen my physician,i’am currently waiting for a referral for a stress test to be performed and had lab work done per DRS. orders,I feel betrayed and that we are really just a number, and Physicians and their assistance don’t really care!! I wonder how would they feel if it was a member of thier family being stress out!!! I’am told we should at least have been notified simply a common courtesy call would have done,GOD BLESS!!!!!
I have been takin AVALIDE for about 3 years now. I’m 54 years young and had a STROKE 01/11 caused by hypertension which was suppose to be managed by this drug. Currently looking for attorney or CLASS ACTION SUIT. I feel there is alot more to this than we know.
I have been taking Avalide 150/12.5 for close to 15 years and recently switched to 300/25 and taking 1/2 a pill a day. Just to cut cost because Avalide is expensive. It works very well and without any of the side effects that I see mentioned. I just found out to day when I called to get a refill that there was a shortage. My pharmacy recommended the 2 pill substitute but did not mention a recall. I did not find out about the recall until I went online to try to find out about online purchase. I hope it works as well and is not any more expensive.
As far as Wal-Mart pharmacy is concerned, anyone who uses them or that shops Wal-Mart, deserves what ever treatment they receive. Wal-Mart is an anti Christian company that is filled with self righteousness, greed and has no concern nor love for the people who work for them, who shop there or live in there community.
Stick with your local owned and operated business and help support your local community for they are the ones who developed your communities into a place where mega stores want to come into.
God Bless and worship the Lord at all times.
I have been taking Avalide for about 10 years. I have just been having alot of trouble with dizziness. I went to my internal medicine Doctor and she did blood work and sent me to an ear doctor. She did not mention Avalide being recalled. I have been seeing this ear dr and have spent about $600.00 to find out why I am so dizzy. I just about fall down when getting out of bed and turning over or getting up suddenly. He never mentioned anything about AVAlide. He could not find anything wrong with me except he said I had positional vertigo. I am always tired and have bad headaches with the dizziness. Now I know about AVAlide, i am sure this is my problem. When I went to the pharmacy to get my prescipt today, they told me it had been recalled. Now I have to try to get another presciption. Why did these dr’s take my money and not even check about the Avalide causing my problems. There is something funny going on with this. I also have blurred vision when I have these headaches. I know I will never take this medicine again.
I have been taking avalide over six years had a refill in Januarey and went back a week ago to ge refill pharmist only had a small supply so gave me five pills. I went back today Feb.19 and was told there was a recall I have been out of pill for two days monday is a holiday what am I suppose to do until I can see my doctor.
I too have been taking Avalide for a number of years and was totally shocked when I went to Wal-Mart for my refill and was calmly told, “this drug has been recalled” as if I was suppose to know.
I think this was handled in a very inhuman way. Users should be compensated for the stress it has caused if nothing else.
I have been on avalide for a very long time. i was not told it was recalled but told it was a manufacturing problem i have only 18 pills left and i guess have time to call my doctor. but it would be nice to tell us a little more information instead of hiding it. hope this is not another rezulin issue.
I have been taking Avalide for a number of years and it is the bp medicine.I went to my pharmacy today and was told that Avalide was no longer available and that is was being reformulated. The pharmacy could have called me to let me know so that I could have made other arrangements with my doctor.
I was told it was temporary shortage and I was provided replacement call AVapro, but I was not even sure if I should take it so I ask me doctor and I got a answer like it may cause a side effect later. I am thinking about talking to a medical lawyer becuase I thinking about it all the time setting at my desk at work wondering what going on with Avalide. My doctor provide me with another prescription for my high blood presure only one bill and not 2 bills (Avapro). Why would they recommend Avapro and not just tell me to see my doctor as soon as possible to change my prescription.
I was wondering why I was getting dizzy and my left arm tingled and felt like a dead weight. Went to the doctor in January and he said nothing about the Avalide. Only when I went to get a refill did I find out they were out. they didnt mention a recall. only that they would have to sub with Avapro. Is’nt it made by the same company.. Every time I go on medicine it is recalled. Proubly should go off everything and just watch my diet and exercise more. I’m sure I’d proubly be healthier.!!
Neither my doctor, nor the pharmacy knew they were not making avalide anymore, all the pharmacy knew is there was a recall after a certain date. Bristol Myers told NO ONE………..I only found out about it by going on the internet and searching a question. The answer came from Bristol Myers website and they CLAIM they informed their customers and all doctors. This was a LIE………………….No one here in PA knew about it…………
Now I guess we’ll have to take 2 different prescriptions to take the place of avalide. Just another way to hit the consumer………………guess 100 people have to die to cause the government to do anything, then would just be a fine, put back into their pockets, and not ours who were really harmed……………..
I have been taking this drug over 10 years. I did not know a thing about a recall called the phamacy to renew. They did not tell me what was going on they said they could not fill told me to call myDr. I argued with them telling them I had refills. Then without knowing they called my Dr. he sent another drug out for me to get and the pharmacy filled it nothing more was said until I called back my pharmacy and told them I do not take the pill they sent what was going on they said to talk to the Dr. they just knew the drug had been recalled and since then know one not even my Dr. has checked my blood pressure to see if the new drug is working for me or told me a thing. I was bleeding from the bladder was check by a specialist they did not know why just said it happens to women sometimes unexplanable plus dizziness and arms tingling no one did anything about it had a bad bladder infection instancely tolit full of blood went to emergency right away they gave me medicine to take care of it and not one Dr. mention the recall . I hope to believe they did not know
Just read where the Avapro has been linked to increase in chance of cancer. I may stop ALL medications.
I have been taking this drug for 7 years. Just found out about the recall yesterday as I went to refill. My Nurse at, UNMC had no knowledge of this recall. Having read the symptoms of the previous peoples comment I can relate to the arm falling asleep, tingling, and the wake up at 3.00 am. When I awake I’m usually in a sweat, and the vertigo. But I have to ask if anyone else has a problem with their feet? I feel as if I’m standing on a block of ice or lit cigarettes. This pain is persistent and no MD or Podiatrist can come up with a solution. Any Help?
I have also taken Avalide fr several years and no problems until the last 4 months. Severe muscle amd joint aches. In the morning I wake up with leg cramps and stomach pain. I did not know that there was a recall, I was told it was back ordered from my pharmacy. They said it would be after April before it would be available. My doctor has prescribed Enolapril Maleate HCT for me to try. I hope it works as I am really afraid to take the Avalide again.
I have been on Avalide 300/25 for several years and doing terrific. Some vertigo but I had that on Ziac. I received a letter from Kroger Pharmacy that there would be a shortage of Avalide. No mention about the recall. Kroger called my Dr and she prescribed Avapro 300 mg and HTCTZ 25 mg. The 90 days of HTCZ was only $4. and the Avapro cost the same as Avalide so I am not too upset about the money. Just getting tired of adding yet one more pill to my daily dozen.
Doug the symptoms sound like neruoraphy. I am having the same thing and that was the diagnosis.
Pat
Yes, I’ve also been down that road, and am not diabetic. My Doctor seems to think it’s linked to the coumadin. I think it’s beyond the normal neruoraphy. Thanks for your help.
I have been experiencing the same symptoms as everyone else. I have been on avalide 300-25 for many years without problems…until the last few months. I am super dizzy when I first awake, tingling in my left arm, nausea, headache, blurry vision, palpitations, general feeling of weakness in arms and legs and sleeping a lot during breaks at work. just learned of the recall and wonder if this drug is my problem. i will not take anything else from this company ever again and I want answers!!! They owe us that much.
I have been on Avalide 300/25 for about three years. Didn’t know about the recall but in Dec. 2010 I started having weak spells, lost 12 lbs. from Dec. until March. My blood pressure would go up and I would have a strange feeling. It would last from 10 min. to an hour or more. The doctor changed some of my BP medicine and increased dosage on some, but when I called the pharmacy to have my Avalide refilled, the pharmacist told me they would have to give me something capatible to Avalide (never mentioned a recall). I decided to call CVS pharmacy and they told me it had been recalled. Since I have had all these bad weak spells since December, it makes me wonder if I was taking the recalled Avalide during those three months.
I am upset because the recall was kept so quiet and not in the news. media.
This is for Doug and others. I have used Avalide for 7 years. For the past few months, I was having tingling in my arm and dizziness, but the worst were the leg cramps and severe sharp pain in my feet and toes. I am a diabetic and thought of diabetic neuropathy so I went to see my doctor and she thought it may be a back problem. My left leg is far worse than the right. She put me on Neurontin 3 times a day and all I do is sleep. Without the medication I can’t function because of the pain and with it I sleep all the time. I wake up and feel like I’m going to hit the floor I so dizzy. Have also had headaches. I receive my medications by mail in 90 day supplies. Now what do I do. I have all these pilss that I’m afraid to take.
please if any one knows if their is a class action suit let me know. my husband has taken this for many years an we just found out it was recalled. he has blurred vision paplations an his heart is skipping beats real bad till he has to g for a stree test next week. also the numbness an weakness in his arms an severe pain in his shoulder. its bad enough he has stints in his heart. but we expect the makers of these drugs to make them safe for our familys. praying forall going thru this. GOD bless you all
WOW!!! That is really all I can say after reading your responses. I have thought I was going crazy or dieing. I have been taking Avalide for 4 years and have had little issues on and off, but for the most part it worked well until about July/August of 2010. I began to have severe pains in my left shoulder and neck and in a few instances had to be sent home from work for what seemed like stroke symptoms (ie, left arm and side of head went numb, tingling in left arm, slow speech, severe fatigue, can’t fall/stay asleep, severe cases of chills with hands and feet hurting and headache, blurred vision, and seeing spots in left eye). I went straight to my doctor who performed EKG’s, stress tests, and ultra sounds to check for blockage or anyerisms. I have seen a neurologist (who is scheduling an MRI) and going to an optometrist to have my left eye checked as well. I was completely floored when I found out that the medicine had been recall (when I tried to refill my prescription in late January 2011) and instantly began to attribute my symptoms to that after I read the reason for the recall. I am sure there is more to this story, especially now having heard others having the same problems. Wow. I’m praying for us all.
WOW! I just read comments. I had my rx for Avalide 300-25 refilled in February. I got a letter from CVS telling me they could no longer get Avalide. I called them and they were evasive. They never said anything about a recall. I have been taiking Avalide for over 4 years with no side effects until recently. I would feel strange, dizzy anxious and for the last week my blood pressure has gone for 120/80 to 135 or 140 over 68 . Now I know why. I will be calling my Doctor on Monday. Drug companies are like politions they speak out of both sides of their mouths. Its really sad this country is no longer honorable. Its like Sodom and Gamora. Isn’t there anyone out there who is like honest ABE??
I’m very upset, that the public was not aware of this recall.I have been having pain and numbness in my legs ,for quite a while. Then my bp went real high.My Dr was not aware of it either.I feel there is something not quite right about the whole situation.
Do the pharmacy has a obligation to its customers to informed them of any RECALL of Medication they are providing? CVS fill my prescription Feb.,March and April for AVALIDE and not a word about the RECALL.
Monday I called for my prescriptions to be refilled. Upon delivery, no Avalide. They gave me some form to have my Dr fill out(authorization). In speaking with thr dr office, yesterday, they had not received any form. Called the pharmacy this morning, all they said was the insurance company would not pay for it, so I advised them that they could call the dr office and get it straightened out. That was less than an hour ago. After reading all these letters I’m wondering if my aches and pains are not caused by avalide instead of the statin I am taking. The pains that have developed in my right thigh and back are so severe it takes your breath away. I, like all the other patients, knew nothing about a recall, my prescription was filled 11/05/10 300-12.5 mg. I am in agreement with all the others the company needs to make amends.
Thank you, all you people who wrote a comment about Avalide. Ditto here. No one told me about the recall!!! Not the doctor or the two pharmacies I deal with. My (recent) symtoms were (1) breaking out in something like hives or chicken pox, and headaches. I also suffered left arm pain. I liked Avalide, using it with Norvasc, and always felt fine.
Doctor prescribed (1st, Avapro) and then when that ran out, he prescibed lobesartan/hydroclorothiazide. (Seems he’s running scared!!). Lawsuits seem iminent due to this situation. But thanks again for all you guys who wrote in.
I work in the pharmacy at Wal-Mart and when I went to have my Avalide refilled, I was told it was on backorder. A few days later I was in Schnucks so I went over to their pharmacy to ask if they had any in stock. Their pharmacist was the one who actually told me it had been recalled. Of course, that meant another visit to the doctor to get a new prescription, and I found out he had no idea that Avalide had been recalled. I’m wondering if BM didn’t tell any one it was a recall, or if they’re all trying to cover their butts in case of upcoming lawsuits. I had been taking Avalide 300/25 for about 5 years and it worked great. Then suddenly I started getting muscle and joint aches and pain and also woke up with numbness and tingling in my fingers. There is something going on with this medication that they’re not telling us. If it was just a dirty plant in Puerto Rico, why are they “reformulating” this medication?
I was forced by my ATT&T PPO insurance plan to use the 90 day Genric CVS Losartan blood pressure med. I noticed it was a white pill instead of the off grren tablet from Rite Aid.
Was having no problem on the lower dosage Rite aid form of this drug. Since I started using the CVS form. Lower dosage was not working and increased to the 100mg. dosage. Next visit not working, and found about the recall, but no reason given.
Was allowed to fill a 30 day 100 mg. Gerneric Rite aid dosage. May have could have stayed on the 50 mg. dosage. My only option from my PPO was buy the name brand Cozzar, for 256.00 /30 day supply versus 8 dollars for the generic.
For last few months or so. been on a drug that is not working properly. B.P. has been high, during each visit to Doctor. If a law suite is pending, please add me to the list. These Drug companys are playing money games with our lives.
August 14, 2011 I was taking Avalide 300/25 for 8 years. I was informed by mailorder Caremark that it was going to become a preferred med. Instead of calling and asking me they called the Dr. and put me on Losartan/HCT 100/25 this is what I received in the mail . No explanation from anyone why this was done. Have been taking this for three weeks and went to the doctors the other day and my pressure us up. I asked about the avalide and he said he may have samples. He came back with Avapro 300 with a script for HCZT to be filled at the drug store. I asked what was wrong that the avalide was on back order since December 2010 with caremark and that CVS could not get it. He said maybe there was a recall but he did not know. Well I have had many problems over the past year with dizziness, headache, my left upper arm down to my elbow having pain and quite a few other things. Just from reading everyone comments I think there is more to this. We all can’t be wrong. And the side affects that are in Axapro who needs more trouble seeing how they are from the same company. I am very upset about this and having to spend money one other Drs visit to figure out why certain things are happening. Thanks for the info.
I was on Avalide for about 4 years ending on/about April 2010 when I was rushed to the ER with chest pains. Prior to this, I had begun having lower back-hip pains so severe that just walking a block would wipe me out. The pain was severe and my legs would cramp up. I mentioned this to my doctor and told her I thought it might be the Avalide. She said that she doubted it since this only happened in less than 1% of the people. I guess I was the 1%. My sister who is an RN suggested I see her doctor. I explained what I was feeling and he immediately took me off the Avalide. I still get occasional pain and wonder if there has been any long term damage. I am on more medication now than I ever was and have to get my heart monitored frequently. I wonder if I had been taken off the Avalide earlier if this could have all been avoided.
